Western States Public Radio had a number of accomplishments in FY08:
Hosted a major public radio conference in Los Angeles that focused on a
variety of new technologies and how public radio might use them, but also
included an update on legal issues affecting public broadcasting, and a
discussion of public radio program pricing policies.
Sent the President of WSPR to all NPR board meetings to make sure the
interests of the western public radio stations were represented. The
President then reported discussions of significance to all WSPR members.
Discussed the way CSG cuts were handled by CPB with Bruce Theriault and
Greg Schnirring when those cuts were forced by the rescission. Then had
the WSPR President lead a discussion with all the Regional Presidents concerning
the cuts.
In cooperation with the other public radio regional organizations,
presented the 2008 PRRO Award to Joanne Church of the RRC.
Maintained the WSPR Listserv for members to talk with each other.
Posted an NPR candidate Q&A on the WSPR web site for the 2007 and
2008 NPR Board elections.
Prepared
a filing in response to the FCC’s inquiry into new localism rules for stations
that charts the difficulties the new rules would have on local stations.
And WSPR is currently planning the 2008 conference, to be held in
Seattle, Washington at the Alexis Hotel on November 5th, 6th
and 7th.
That’s an excellent result for a yearly $300 membership investment.
We look forward to your membership!
