WSPR Board meeting minutes
Tuesday – 2/12 – 11 AM Pacific Time

Paul Stankavich, John Schwarz, Karen Holp, Beth Warren and John Hess

1) Regional Presidents discussion with Bruce Theriault regarding CSG cuts. – Last Tuesday 2/5/08 – relative to cuts being born by the stations. No clear mandate – but discussion can continue. Why isn’t the bureaucracy taking more of a share of the cuts? Bruce has been asked to put the CPB rationale in writing. CPB has stated that there is no other money – this is their choice.

2) Agenda for the Annual Meeting- The proposed agenda for the fall 2008 WSPR Conference was reviewed.  Assignments were given to WSPR board members to research and recruit speakers for the various breakout sessions. Once research is completed and speakers are secured, a finalized conference agenda will be circulated to WSPR members

3) Conference hotel: KUOW has agreed to take care of the hotel arrangements and on-site meals for this fall’s conference in Seattle.  They are looking at possible waterfront hotel locations.  KEXP will arrange for the Wednesday opening night reception and activities.

4) NPR annual meeting and CPB Conference – CPB is still looking at opening up registration for the CPB Leadership Conference.  More information should be coming from CPB on this soon.

5) NPR Board meeting – NPR has extended the deadline for nominations to the board due to a small slate of candidates who have put their names in the ring so far. The board is looking for diversity in geography, station size and ethnicity in the field of candidates. The NPR board is advocating for board members to attend regional conferences when possible to strengthen the bond between local stations and NPR. Chairman Harsagger has expressed a desire to be more open, and more forthcoming in providing information coming from the NPR board to the member stations.

Respectfully submitted,

John Hess (with help from Beth Warren
