Western State Public Radio Board of Directors
Conference Call
2/5/09

Attendance: Stankavich, Holp, Hess, Mara:

The budget:

Holp presented the FY 2009 and FY 2010 budgets.  FY 2009 budget projects an ending balance of approximately $9,000. The FY 2010 budget is conservative.  By keeping travel and administrative expenses down, and tightly managing conference expenses, we project that we will break even for 2009.

The budget that Karen is projecting for next year is reasonable.  The board gave a tentative approval of the FY 10 budget.  Chairman Stankavich asked that Karen Holp send this tentative budget to the membership for their reaction.

FY 2010 Conference Planning:

Last year we put out a survey to our membership to start the dialogue about our annual conference and we should do the same this year.  The survey would be short, dealing with dates, location, who would be able to attend, etc.   The survey would be put together by Paul and then sent out to the board for review before being sent out to the membership.

Regarding the host city for this year’s conference, Portland has confirmed that they would be happy to host as did Houston.  Chairman Stankavich will include in the survey a question about the member’s preference for a host city.

The survey will also include a group of questions pertaining to topics for the conference as well as speakers from NPR/CPB and other national public radio organizations.

The issue of offering our annual conference via webinar was discussed.  Karen Holp has investigated this and would like to include a question in the survey to see if the WSPR membership would be interested in using a webinar service for the conference as well.

Next board meeting:  Early March-2009
