WSPR Board meeting
minutes
January 8, 2008 – 11 AM Pacific Time
Meeting called to order @ 12:04 p.m. MST.
1. Conference Hotel location: There was consensus of those on the conference call that we locate the 2008 WSPR Conference in a hotel located in Downtown Seattle to be closer to various amenities and events located in the downtown area.
2. A-Reps/CPB Leadership Conference: All the WSPR board members indicated that they would be in attendance for the A-Reps/CPB Leadership meetings scheduled for the Washington D.C. area in mid-March 2008. There was consensus from board members that WSPR managers should be encouraged to attend these important upcoming meetings.
Action:
Paul will send out an email to the WSPR membership urging managers to attend the
upcoming A-Reps/CPB Leadership meetings, stressing the significance of having a
quorum at the A-Reps gathering where important governance issues will be
discussed.
3. CSG Cuts: Presidents of the regional public radio organizations will meet next week to discuss CPB’s proposed funding cuts to stations CSG’s. At that meeting the organizations will determine whether they want to draft a formal response to CPB regarding the proposed funding cuts. All the members of the WSPR board indicated that they were comfortable having Paul Stankavich representing WSPR interests at this meeting.
Action:
Paul will draft an email to the WSPR membership stating the position of the WSPR
board on this issue and ask the general membership for their comments.
He will share these comments with the other regional presidents at their
upcoming meeting.
4. Setting an agenda for the WSPR annual meeting: There was general consensus amongst the board that the annual meeting would focus on leadership and management issues of concern to WSPR general managers.
Action:
Paul requested of the board that between now and our next monthly meeting; board
members email each other their ideas about specific workshops and conference
breakout sessions, paying special attention to methodology that attracts veteran
and novice station managers to the Seattle conference.
