Western State Public Radio Board of Directors
Conference Cal
l
June 12, 20008

In attendance: Jon Schwartz, Karen Holp, Paul Stankavich, John Hess and Beth Warren.

I.  WSPR Conference planning:
Karen Holp suggested switching the Myers/Briggs session to an open ended session that members could use to discuss how WSPR has moved ahead on a number of issues.  Beth Warren’s sessions are progressing nicely.  She has secured J.C. Patrick from NPR to address the conference attendees on the topic: “Are We Leaving Money on the Table in Public Radio?”  J.C. will supply Beth with a list of best practice stations in WSPR membership who could be used as case studies.
Beth is in contact with Harris Corp. about a session on HD radio as well as provide funding for the conference.  Beth will be in contact with Al Jason from Harris on conducting the workshop.  KEXP is planning a great opening event in Downtown Seattle on Wednesday night.

II. NPR and the Web:
The suggestion was made to enlist Mark Furst to help in approaching Sun Micro Systems to get more information on how the MLB.com site was created.  It was suggested that Jon Schwartz approach Mark to be the point person on this issue of creating a universal website for public radio.  What are the next steps in the process, what areas will future meetings cover?

III. Planning for the NPR conference call:
NPR will supply the WSPR board with an outline of what they would like to discuss at the WSPR conference. It is important that the NPR portion of the conference focus on issues that are important to the WSPR membership. In general discussions with the board here is a list of possible issues to bring up with NPR:

 NPR/Internet connection
Cost of NPR Programming
Update on “dashboard measurements” previously presented at A-reps meeting.

IV. Next meetings:
Meeting w/ NPR is slated for 6/20 @ 11:00 a.m. PDT.  The next WSPR board meeting is set for 7/23 @ 9:00 a.m. PDT.

Respectfully submitted: John Hess- Secretary, WSPR
