Western State Public Radio annual meeting
October 3, 2006

I. 8:30 am Meeting called to order Ron Kramer read minutes of last year’s meeting in Denver, CO. Lamar Marchese moved, Beth Warren seconded accepting minutes.
II. WSPR President, Ron Kramer stated that most of his work had been planning this year’s conference. Ron mentioned renewed effort by NPR to reach out solicit comments from Regional Presidents. Also Ron described “new wind” blowing at CPB. New CEO Pat Harrison making greater effort than past presidents to reach out to system. Regionals also seem to be working better together.
III. Paul Stankovich explained Alaska stations prior participation in regional organizations, was en masse, all as one. New arrangement gives stations authority to join organizations as they wish, ad hoc. Paul than took us through balance sheet. Members recommendation that WSPR excess cash flow be invested in interest bearing instruments had not happened yet due to low available balances. No questions for treasurer. Paul recommended report accepted, Steve Barton seconded.
IV. Elections: Following candidates made very brief acknowledging remarks; Kerry Swanson, Beth Warren, Dick Kunkel.
V. Ron Kramer led discussion of next year’s conference, suggested joint gathering with California Public Radio. Ken Stern committed to NPR’s assisting with this effort at NPR West in L.A. [Board will follow up]
VI. Kerry Swanson passed around “ancient” photos of WSPR notables and not so notables. Two resolutions were passed unanimously honoring Martin Neeb and Lamar Marchese.
